Description / Expertise
D453.
19th Century Dome Top Regulator signed Gabriel London. A particularly small and fine quality mahogany longcase regulator signed Gabriel London. The dial, some 12" in diameter, is of conventional layout with the 4.2" seconds ring having bold 5 second lines and Arabic numerals. The hour ring, also 4.2", employs Roman numerals.
The pendulum uses mercury compensation and the silvered beat plate below it is slightly curved and mounted on a mahogany block. The very substantial movement plates, some
6.5" x 9", are held down to the seatboard by three large bolts. All the wheelwork, including the pulley, employs six crossings.
The case has a mirrored back so as to enhance the pendulum and there is a very finely executed fretwork below the dial.
The well figured base has a recessed central panel and the sides of the case are solid.
This Victorian regulator is undoubtedly one of the finest we have had the priviledge of handling.
Height : 5' 10.5 " ( 179.2 cm.)
