D202. A fine French chariot clock being pulled by a well sculpted lion with a moth holding the reins, circa 1830.
The bronzed base of the clock is supported by elaborate gilded lions paw feet and the front is decorated with an applied mount featuring a stringed instrument to the centre from which scroll-work runs out to the swan- like birds on either side.
The well executed bronzed chariot has a female figure to the front holding the ends of the delicate gilded harness . On the rear of the chariot rests a bow and a quiver of arrows. The winged figure of cupid on top of the chariot bears a torch.
The dial and back door are in the form of a finely sculpted wheel with elaborate spokes. The movement has count-wheel strike on a bell.
