Description / Expertise
Drocourt No 7585. A most impressive Gorge cased giant carriage clock with engraved gilt mask by this eminet maker, circa 1880.
This clock, which is signed on the backplate by the fine makers & retailers Hunt & Roskell, London, has been made to a particularly high standard with a movement much larger than standard which strikes and repeats on a gong and is provided with an alarm & completely fills the case. The silvered platform, which may be seen through the rectangular top glass, has alos been enlarged proportionately.
The number on the very substantial case repeats that on the movement as does the baseplate, which is also numbered 36664.
The dial is particularly well executed. It has delicate roman hour and fine arabic minute numerals with the alarm dial also employing arabics. The gilt mask surrounding it is beautifully engraved.
