Description / Expertise
D388. A beautifully made miniature rosewood grande piano containing a two tune musical box.
When the lid is raised there is space, possibly for housing jewellery and an inner cover that on removal reveals a two tune music box which is wound through the base of the piano. There is an on/off switch on the underneath and also a change lever for the two tunes it plays.
Intriguingly above the keyboard is an oval plaque inscribed Lizzie Blackmore May 1871. Who the lucky lady is we do not know. Could she be a famous pianist or maybe a family member who played the piano well? £1550.
