Description / Expertise
D413. Grant, Fleet Street, London, circa 1790. Grant must have been particularly proud of this clock as he has signed it , boldly, accross the top of the dial and also to the centre of the backplate, where he has numbered it 330.
The two train bell striking fuzee movement is far more substantial than is usually encountered, the very thick plates, for instance, being 6.4" x 8" (16.5 x 20.3 cms.) The back-cock is massive and the spring barrels are far larger than is usually encountered. Even the bob
on the pendulum is a very heavy one. The shallow flat topped arched dial contains the Strike/silent regulation.
The case of this clock is most attractive with the breakarch hood, which is glazed to either side, sliding forward for removal. The base below is moulded.
Length overall 21" (53.5 cms). £12500
