Description / Expertise
D334. A delightful miniature carriage clock, the likes of which we have never seen before and would almost certainly have been a special commission or a labour of love by a skilled craftsman; The case takes the form of a country cottage and is amazingly detailed.
The “planked” sides have ivy growing up over them; one front column has creeper twining around it and an owl is perched at the top. The other front column features further foliage and flowers, with a cockerel at the bottom. The top of the case simulates a thatched roof overlaid with creeper and the handle is formed of two inter-twined strands.
The dial is hand-painted on board and depicts three young children. Roman numerals are used and fine gilt hands. There is an oval top-glass with bevelled edge and a design engraved on it and the glass in the back door is also engraved.
A timepiece movement is used and there is a very attractively designed and executed arched leather carrying case with the doors hinging open from either side, which is still in good order.
Height of case:- 5.5" (13.4cms).
Height of clock, with/without handle 4.2"/ 3.2". (10.7 / 7.8cms.)
