Description / Expertise

D345. This very attractive clock, based on a maritime theme, has a freely rotating globe on top signed E.Bertoux, Editeur, Rue Serpente, Paris. It is surmounted by a coromandel? Sphere with a pointed brass finial. Below the globe is a brass cross-bar which, together with the globe, rests on a ringed blued steel column.

Immediately below this is a single train clock with a silvered chapter ring and roman numerals. To the left of this is a quite large dark bronze anchor with gilded chain that carries a thermometer. Adjoining this is a compass. On the other side of the clock is an anaeroid barometer and behind this a device, possibly for raising a boom.

The whole rests on an attractive onyx base which in turn is supported by a substantial moulded brass plinth which rests on heavy brass feet.

The whole clock has been executed to a very high standard.

Overall height: 16" (40.5cms.)
