D140. A large and impressive silvered and bronzed timepiece in the form of a capstan with revolving lantern, circa 1890.
The bollard has a hawser wrapped around it and an anchor, lifebelt, davits and ratchet mechanism fixed to it. On top is a rotating lantern powered by a very substantial independent movement in the base. It has four columns and is surmounted by a cupola and finial. On two sides are clock dials whilst the other two contain a barometer and thermometer. On top is a compass.
