Description / Expertise

D337. LeRoy et Fils, 57 New Bond Street &Palais Royal, Paris No 8641. This impressive petite sonnerie striking carriage clock, with selection lever in the base for silence/sonnerie, has finely fretted out, engraved and gilded panels to all four sides, featuring birds and foliage.

To the centre of the back panel is a vase with two birds on top flanked by delicately executed flowers. All the panels have been protected by glass, which accounts for their excellent condition. Both the main and alarm dials employ arabic numerals.

The winding mechanism of the clock was originally conceived as base wind, but has been converted, to the very highest standards, to back wind, an expensive and time consuming proceedure, which makes one wonder if this was requested by the first owner from the retailer and thus the manufacturer, prior to purchase.

Height with/without handle. 8.3"/6.7". (21/16.5cms)
