Description / Expertise
D425. Viner, London. A particularly fine English mid 19th century carriage clock with a well figured rosewood case and a beautifully engraved and gilded dial. It is signed to either side of, and just below, '12'. There are black roman numerals and delicate heart shaped skeletonised blued steel hands.
The top and sides of the case have bevelled glasses and the back door is also glazed. The clock rests on gilded bun feet. The very substantial twin fusee movement strikes and repeats the hours on a gong and there is strike/silent regulation to the left-hand side of the case.
Charles Edward Viner was working in Red Lion Street, Clerkenwell, London from 1813 to 1869.
Height with/without handle: 11"/9" (28/22.7cm)
