Description / Expertise
D411. Martin and Roberts Regulator No 474, made in 1978.
A full account of the partnership of Martin & Roberts, which was formed with the aim of
producing high quality and also attractive regulators, is given in “A life with Antique Clocks”
pages 18-27 and this particular regulator has just been bought back. This, like all the regulators made, has end stones made of rubies and the pivot holes employ the same material. The pallets use agate. Harrison’s maintaining power and beat adjustment are also provided. The very slim trunk of the case is glazed to the front and sides.
A conventional circular silvered dial is employed with centre sweep seconds, minute hour hand and a mercury compensated pendulum. This particular clock has a rosewood case with walnut veneers used around the dial. There is a slide off hood to give access to the movement.
Overall length : 60" ( 152 cm.)
