Description / Expertise
D364. This very attractive little clock, which is known to have been with one family for at least the last 90 years and possibly from new, is one of the finest and most original miniatures we have had the pleasure of handling. Its carrying case, with its carrying strap, is covered, both on the inside and outside, where it is now somewhat rubbed, with a dark purple velvet. The attractive and individual winding key, numbered 690, may or may not be the original.
The beautiful and highly individual clock case was almost black when we received it but it says much for the quality of the original gilding that with careful cleaning it came up like new. The caryatids applied to the four corners of the case are finely executed and the panels to the sides and back are decorated with floral fret-work of the greatest delicacy.
The circular white enamelled dial, with arabic numerals and delicate gilt hands, is surrounded with raised gilded floral decoration. The movement, numbered 2071, still has its original lever platform escapement.
Ht with/without handle 3.25/2.5" ( 8.3/6.3 cms.)
