Description / Expertise

D304. A most attractive little clock signed to either side of 12 0'clock Viner & Co, London. The dial, a little over 4.5" in diameter, including the finely executed gilded bezel, has a matt gilt chapter ring with roman numerals and a particularly well executed scrolled and engine turned centre.

The case, veneered in well figured tortoiseshell, has a drum shaped top which rests on a rectangular base supported by four small gilded feet with floral decoration. Applied to the front is a particularly fine gilded mount consisting of crossed staves terminating in cones with vine leaves entwined around them. To the bottom corners of the dial are delicate floral paterae.

A single train French movement is employed with silk suspension which is unusual in having a third larger plate to the rear, which has probably been fitted to exclude dust from the movement.

Ht:- 7.5" (19cms). £3,950.
