Description / Expertise
D309. An “export market” porcelain panelled carriage clock in an “Anglaise Riche”
case with three fine porcelain panels depicting birds and incorporating plaques. Circa 1885.
The case has an attractively shaped handle with fluted centre and this feature has also been adopted for the rectangular columns and the bands to the top and bottom of the case. The movement, numbered 1156, has petite sonnerie striking and repeating on two gongs.
The three panels, set on a gilt background, are particularly well executed. The dial, with Roman numerals, features cherry blossom to the centre and top right; a bird, with wings outstretched, to the bottom, together with a plaque containing foliage and to the top left is
a butterfly. There are also faint signs of a signature. One side panel has a bird to the centre perched on a branch, together with blue and maroon plaques. The other side panel shows a bird perched on the branch of a flower, whist at the top are two further plaques.
Height with/without handle:- 7.5" / 5.8" ( 19/14.5)cms. £6,750
